I didn’t know one of our country’s words that are used for calling someone in a funny way actually has a meaning. For us –well, me specifically –bruja means bitch or just a term which also means sis or sister. Didn’t know it actually meant witch.
This book has a unique story. Unlike any other book that has the cliché of having a person based on a prophecy and things like that, Alejandra Mortiz, the chosen one, doesn’t want to be the chosen. Most books with this kind of theme, the chosen ones always cry that they are not the right person. But with Alex, she knows that she’s the one and she hates it. For her, having a power like hers is a burden and not a gift. Which kind of irritate me, that side of hers irritates me. Also, because of that side, she lost all her family.
For some reason, for me, she became as a self-centered girl to all throughout the book. And as what Nova said, she’s a brat. She has everything anyone could hope for but she doesn’t want it. Even Rishi felt that she’s perfect but Alex doesn’t see it.
Their adventure is amazing though. Magic and powers are amazing things. Never read a book with so much magic and power like this. Where the owner of the magic is in control and they don’t use it limitedly. It’s amazing. And the way it was written is good that it painted crystal clear scenes inside my head. It’s like I’m watching a movie while reading this.
And yes. I really wish that this could turn into a movie. It would be awesome!
One of the unique things about this book is having a girl as the villain. Most books today have men for a villain and a girl for a hero. (Go girl power?) Sure it was unique and it was new so I was actually expecting that the battle between Alex and the Devourer would be epic and full of exchange of blows in magic and power. But it happened only in one chapter. And I was expecting more. Seriously, it would be really great if they fought even more where it would be like the battle of who’s stronger of the two. But the battle was abrupt.
The other unique thing about this book, and also new to me, is the love triangle. Most love triangles in a book are composed of one girl and two guys. But here, it’s one guy and two girls. And that’s not the unique part! (Brace yourself because this could come out as a bit of a spoiler. If you don’t want to be spoiled from anything, skip the next part!) Yes it was composed of two girls and a guy but it’s not the two girls who are fighting for the guy but it was the boy and the other girl who is fighting for the heroine! Nova and Rishi are rivals! I never encountered any love triangles that have opposite sex as rivals. It was unique and new to me so it was great!
I don’t have issues about the writing style or anything else. Though I was expecting more from what’s gonna happen on the end but it outweighed the adventure I felt all throughout reading the book so it’s a perfect score for me.
This is a great read! If you are the kind of person who loves adventure with magic and powers and unique love triangle in it, this one is perfect for you!
